At Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, people can find books, magazines, historical records — and NFL Draft-themed merchandise.

The library will offer various draft-themed programs leading up to the April 23-25 event, which will be held in Pittsburgh’s Downtown and North Shore.

Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will keep its Downtown location open during the draft, spokeswoman Suzanne Thinnes said Wednesday. The same is true for a law library it maintains in the City-County Building.

The library will host several draft-themed programs at its Downtown site and at branches throughout the city in the days leading up to the event.

One program will feature local author Mark Fatla, who will speak about the history of Pittsburgh’s professional sports venues.

Another, geared for students in kindergarten through fifth grade, will explore the science of football, examining why some balls bounce higher and how electrolytes help with players’ endurance.

Other events will touch on Pennsylvania’s most athletic wildlife and the symbolism of NFL teams.

Plus, the library will be selling draft merchandise online and at the library’s Downtown and Mt. Washington branches, Thinnes said.

Options currently available online include T-shirts and pint glasses that say “Every story begins with a draft.”

“We’re very excited to welcome everyone to Pittsburgh and showcase the beautiful libraries we have,” Thinnes told TribLive.
