The race for Chartiers Valley School Board had four open four-year seats and one open two-year seat.

Five candidates were on the ballot for the four-year seats. Lisa Trainor, Herb Ohliger and Mitchell Montani Jr. were all cross-filed and received 4,679, 4,424 and 4,306 votes, respectively. Democrat Megan Sexton edged out Republican Julie Steele for the fourth seat with 3,955 votes to 3,371.

Ohliger also ran – uncontested – for the two-year seat.

“Once he’s inducted, Mr. Ohliger will have to resign from one of the seats – either the two-year or four-year,” said Mikaela Duckstein, director of communications and strategic partnerships for Chartiers Valley School District. “Then, the board will have to appoint someone to fill the open seat. In the past, when the board has appointed a new member, they advertise the open seat, hold public interviews, then vote to appoint the new member.”

Ohliger said via email on Nov. 15 that he would be keeping the four-year seat.

The new school board members will be sworn in at the Dec. 7 reorganization meeting.
