A man who was transported to a Pittsburgh hospital after being shot in the city’s Manchester neighborhood on Wednesday night has died, according to authorities.

Officers from the city’s Zone 1 station in the North Side responding to a Shotspotter alert in the 1200 block of North Franklin Street around 7:45 p.m. were unable to locate a victim, according to a public safety spokeswoman.

While officers searched the area they were informed that a man had been taken to Allegheny General Hospital in the North Side by private vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office said Demarco Mahone, 26, of Manchester died of his injuries shortly before midnight.

The incident is being investigated by the city’s Violent Crime Unit.
