Clairton City School District is closed and all classes, including online, are canceled Monday and Tuesday after parts of the education center were flooded by a water main break, the district announced.
According to the district, a water main failed on the Large Avenue side of the building on Saturday, sending water into it.
“Many of the facilities on the elementary level of the building have been affected and are in need of repair and restoration,” the district said in a notice on its website.
District officials met with representatives of Pennsylvania American Water and disaster restoration services to survey the damage and begin the cleanup and repair process.
“These agencies will be working 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week, to return our building and classrooms to their previous condition,” the district’s notice said.
The district said it will resume in-person instruction as soon as possible.
In addition to classes being canceled on Monday and Tuesday, the district said an upcoming open house is also postponed.
“We are asking all of our families to prepare for remote instruction for the immediate future,” the district said.
The district will distribute devices on Tuesday to elementary students and families that do not have them. The district said it will update families on device distribution and remote learning instructions.
