Cops charge woman with firing gun at closing time on South Side
Pittsburgh police have filed charges in two incidents of unruly behavior on the South Side — one involving gunfire and the other physical violence — that punctuated a chaotic few days in the city’s busiest, most heavily patrolled entertainment district.
In the first, police said a Forest Hills woman fired a gun into the air around 2 a.m. Sunday, briefly causing panic as bars were closing along East Carson Street. No one was injured.
Alysa Gore, 22, was charged Sunday with simple assault, two counts of recklessly endangering another person and a firearms count.
Gore was not in custody Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Police said the incident started when Gore approached a vehicle along South 14th Street, according to a criminal complaint. A woman, who identified herself as Gore’s ex-girlfriend, said she was sitting inside the vehicle.
An argument between Gore, Gore’s ex-girlfriend and Gore’s new girlfriend ensued, the complaint said. The new girlfriend then “began to physically attack” the ex-girlfriend.
Gore pulled a gun from her waistband and fired two shots in the air, the complaint said. She and the new girlfriend then ran from the scene and drove away in a gray SUV, according to police.
About two dozen Pittsburgh police officers were stationed on East Carson Street, some within a block of the shooting, as bartenders announced last call.
State law mandates that alcohol cannot be sold or served after 2 a.m. in Pennsylvania businesses.
Nobody was injured by the gunfire early Sunday.
The commotion subsided as officers, for at least the second consecutive weekend, formed a riot line stretching across East Carson Street to control the crowds.
As police Commander Jeff Abraham and City Councilman Bob Charland, wearing a bulletproof vest, looked on, cops pushed the crowds out of the neighborhood.
The second incident led to the arrest of Tyler Huddleston, who was taken to the Allegheny County Jail early Monday after officers stunned him with a Taser.
Police with the South Side’s entertainment patrol removed Huddleston, 30, of New Castle from an establishment in the 1400 block of East Carson Street around 1:30 a.m. Monday.
Huddleston was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
Once police took Huddleston outside, several rowdy patrons filled the area as the establishment closed, police said. A large fight ensued.
Diorr Grier-Phillips, 26, of Penn Hills punched a security guard in the face and was charged via summons with simple assault, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
Due to the size of the crowd, its level of intoxication and “general unruliness,” police used pepper spray to clear the scene, Emily Bourne, a police spokeswoman, said.
After the scene was cleared, Pittsburgh EMS treated those affected by the pepper spray, Bourne said. No injuries were reported.
