About 900 Duquesne Light customers were still without power Tuesday night after storms passed through the region early this week, the power company reported.

According to Duquesne Light spokeswoman Ashley Macik, the company has identified areas with “more extensive damage that will require longer repairs.”

There have also been a high number of service outages impacting individual houses, meaning that restoration time for some customers could extend into late Wednesday.

Crews have been working 16-hour shifts to restore power to more than 20,000 Duquesne Light customers who were left in the dark following the storms that spread across the region Sunday and Monday, bringing with them large hail and localized flash flooding.

Officials with the National Weather Service said at the time that winds of 60-70 mph were recorded as well as quarter-sized hail.

Crews with both Duquesne Light and West Penn Power have worked continuously to restore electric service to customers throughout the region following the storms.

By 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Duquesne Light reported that about 2,300 customers were without power. By 6:30 p.m., about 1,200 people were still without power.

Macik said crews will continue to work through to night to “restore all service as quickly as possible.”

“We realize that having power is absolutely critical to our customers,” Macik said. “We continue to appreciate their patience and understanding at this time.”
