Etna, Millvale, Reserve and Shaler named 2022 Banner Communities
Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and the Allegheny County League of Municipalities have released the 2022 list of 80 Banner Communities, and among them are Etna, Millvale, Reserve and Shaler.
“Congratulations to the 2022 Banner Communities, and particularly their elected and appointed officials who have continued to ensure that their municipality is among the best of the best,” Fitzgerald said in a news release.
Fitzgerald said that the program celebrates the work and efforts the officials do on a daily basis for their communities.
“Shaler Township strives to be a model community by providing excellent police services, EMS, public works, recreation and fire protection to all residents,” said assistant township manager Judith L. Kording. “We are honored to be recognized by Allegheny County for these efforts.
This is the 10th year of the Banner Community awards, with Etna and Reserve both making their 10th appearance on the list.
“Etna Borough is honored to once again be designated a Banner Community. It is a team effort, from our elected officials to our public safety and public works personnel to administrative staff, all working together to help make Etna a great place to live, work and play,” said Etna manager Mary Ellen Ramage.
Municipalities need to meet certain criteria to be considered for the Banner Communities Program, including participating in educational or training programs provided by ALOM, the Local Government Academy of or the PA Department of Community Economic Development, conducting a Local Government Weed activity, and promoting and implementing long term sustainable government practices.
“Millvale Borough is excited to be a part of the Allegheny County Banner Community program,” said borough manager Eddie Figas. “Being recognized by the Allegheny League of Municipalities along with the other distinguished communities is a significant honor and testament to borough council’s leadership.
The Allegheny League of Municipalities’ Spring Education Conference will be held in April, where all the 80 municipalities will be recognized.
