Pittsburgh police responded to a fight Friday afternoon at the PennDOT Driver & Vehicle Services on Smithfield Street.

Emily Bourne, a city public safety spokeswoman, said the fight broke out around 2:30 p.m. between two separate families who were in line at the DMV.

Bourne could not identify how many people were involved in the exchange on Friday.

The argument then “spilled out” of the DMV. One adult female from one side of the family used pepper spray and another adult female, from the opposing family, “brandished” a gun in response, Bourne said.

No one was shot.

During the fight the DMV temporarily closed, but reopened after the dispute was resolved.

When police arrived on the scene, one of the women had a minor laceration on her head. However, she refused to tell police how she obtained the injury or to receive medical care, according to Bourne.

No charges were pressed and no one was arrested.
