Fire damages East Allegheny stadium concession stand, cause under investigation
A fire caused heavy damage to the concession stand at East Allegheny’s Churchman Stadium in North Versailles Sunday, said the North Versailles fire department.
The fire happened prior to a youth football game, the East Allegheny School District said in a statement.
Images of the fire showed flames inside the concession stand’s windows and thick, black smoke billowing from the building at the northern end of the stadium.
“The fire was quickly contained and extinguished,” the statement said. “There were no injuries.”
The fire prompted the district to cancel all games scheduled for Sunday.
The concession stand is used by the boosters of every team and entity of the school district as a source of fundraising, the North Versailles fire department said.
“Let’s hope that the community can come together to help these groups raise enough money to keep them going until a plan is in place to repair the concession stand,” the fire department said in a statement.
The school district said it is cooperating in an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
