Firefighters battle a house fire in Etna on Thursday morning.

A woman died Thursday morning in a house fire in Etna.

Etna Volunteer Fire Department Chief Greg Porter said the woman was in her 80s. Porter said her adult son was able to make it out of the duplex and was transported to a hospital for smoke inhalation.

Multiple fire crews were called to the scene, according to Allegheny County dispatchers.

The fire was reported at 4:58 a.m. in a home at 40 Bridge Street, a dispatcher said.

WPXI reported that Etna firefighters were using a ladder truck to battle the fire on an upper floor about 5:30 a.m.

The blaze was also causing traffic congestion in the vicinity of the fire between Butler and Freeport streets.

Fire officials and police were still at the scene of the fire and could not immediately be reached for comment.
