On this episode of the Food Podcast presented by Clearview Federal Credit Union, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank several professional wrestlers tell their own stories about food insecurity.

Mark Henry, Cpt. Shawn Dean and other All Elite Wrestling talent and staff visited the Food Bank while in Pittsburgh for AEW Dynamite and AEW Rampage live events last week. Both said volunteering at the Food Bank hit a personal note, especially when it came to childhood hunger.

Brian Gulish, vice president, marketing and communications, for the Food Bank spoke with Henry and Dean about the food insecurity they experienced in their lives.

“It’s really important. I grew up in an impoverished environment,” said Henry. “I remember my mother not eating until me and my brother had enough. When I was introduced to the world of what the Food Bank does, I was all in.”

Fellow wrestler Dean recounted his upbringing and food issues in his house.

“I grew up in Chicago’s South Side. My mom and dad worked really hard but we had six kids in the house. Food wasn’t always available with that many mouths to feed, said Dean.

Dean adds as he got older, food insecurity was still on his mind. He helped manage a grocery store and made it a point to ensure any extra food was donated to a local food bank.
