Former UPMC doctor accused of traveling to Florida to meet child for sex
A former UPMC doctor is one of six men accused of traveling to Florida to meet who they believed were 14-year-old girls for sex.
Mohamed Kamal Mesregah, 38, of Egypt was most recently an orthopaedic foot and ankle clinical fellow at the University of Pittsburgh and previously was a pediatric orthopaedic fellow at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh from March to July this year, according to his LinkedIn profile.
UPMC announced that Mesregah has been fired.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the arrest of Mesregah and the other men on Thursday through an operation involving local, state and federal authorities.
“This operation is a powerful example of what can be accomplished when local, state, and federal partners come together with one shared mission — to protect our children,” Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said in a statement. “These arrests should serve as a warning to anyone who thinks they can prey on children in our communities. We will find you, we will arrest you, and we will hold you accountable.”
According to a news release, an undercover operation targeted predators who were sexually exploiting children online. It involved undercover law enforcement officers posing as 14-year-old girls on an online escort website.
Mesregah and the other men engaged in sexually explicit and harmful communications with the undercover officers despite being informed they were communicating with a 14-year-old, the release said. They each continued to make plans to meet for sexual activity and were all arrested upon arriving at an agreed upon meeting spot.
Mesregah is charged with use of a computer to seduce, solicit, lure or entice a child; travel to meet after use of a computer to lure a child; and use of a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony.
On X, formerly Twitter, Uthmeier said his office had subpoenaed Mesregah’s records from UPMC, but that UPMC had not yet provided them.
“The ball is in your court, UPMC,” his post says. “We can do this the easy way or the hard way.”
Yesterday, we announced the arrest of @UPMC @ChildrensPgh fellow Dr. Mohamed Mesregah for traveling to FL to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex.
We subpoenaed his records, which UPMC has yet to provide.

In a statement to TribLive news partner WTAE, UPMC said Mesregah’s employment had been terminated, and that it “promptly and fully complies with all lawfully issued subpoenas it receives.”
Several of the defendants were on ICE detainers and will face prison before deportation, Uthmeier said, but did not specify to which that applied. No place of residence was provided for two of the other five; two were said to be from Guatemala and one was from Canada.
The cases are being prosecuted by Uthmeier’s Office of Statewide Prosecution, State Attorney’s Office for the 19th Judicial Circuit, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida.
