Aspinwall street paving is expected to begin in early October.
Council on Sept. 9 awarded a nearly $57,000 contract to A. Folino Construction for work on five streets. They include Loop Street from Brilliant to Emerson avenues, Alley F, East 8th Street, Alley I and Waterworks Drive.
Manager Melissa Lang-O’Malley said work should begin within the next month or so.
Lara Voytko, borough infrastructure chairperson, said the streets were chosen based on an assessment of those that haven’t been paved in recent years.
“The infrastructure committee, along with the public works department and the borough engineer, perform a yearly evaluation to determine roads to be paved,” she said.
Council slated $100,000 in the 2020 budget to be used for road improvements.
O’Malley said the remaining balance, about $43,000, will be used to patch brick streets throughout the town.
Roads will be posted with parking restrictions prior to the start of the project.

- Council appointed Fox Chapel Area student Lydia Turnquist as a junior board member. Turnquist will serve two years through a program offered by the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs. The program aims to provide high school students with an inside look at local government and policy-making.
- Council is urging residents to be good neighbors and pick up after their four-legged friends.
“The borough is getting complaints that dog waste bags are being dropped in tree buckets, other people’s trash cans and dumpsters,” O’Malley said.
Leaving doggie bags anywhere other than in your own trash is against borough code. Violators can face fines of up to $600 issued by borough police.
