Briefs from Fox Chapel Area High School
Fox Chapel Area High School’s speech and debate team participated in the annual North Catholic High School Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament, held in-person on Dec. 11.
Senior Patrick Alexander won an Outstanding Performance award by finishing in the top five.
Approximately 270 students from 27 public and private high schools from Pennsylvania and Maryland participated.

Two high school students were named winners in the virtual annual Isidore Newman School Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament, conducted Dec. 10-12.
In policy debate, senior Ian Mackey-Piccolo and sophomore Adhitya Thirumala finished in the top four.
The tournament was sponsored by the Isidore Newman School in New Orleans. A total of 458 students representing 76 public and private high schools from 26 states participated.

Four high school students won awards as part of the virtual University of Pittsburgh Model European Union diplomatic simulation.
Seniors Patrick Alexander and Nathaniel Mueller won the Excellent Delegation award. Juniors Caleb Hahland and Blaz Vavpetic won the Excellent Position Paper award and an honorable mention delegation award.
The virtual simulation was conducted Dec. 10. Approximately 170 students representing 12 public and private high schools from Western Pennsylvania participated.

Two Fox Chapel Area High School students placed at the virtual 2022 Hugh Downs School of Human Communication Invitational Tournament. The Policy Debate team of senior Ian Mackey-Piccolo and sophomore Adhitya Thirumala won third place overall.
The Hugh Downs tournament was conducted virtually Jan. 7-9 and was hosted by Arizona State University. Nearly 700 students from 88 public, private, and charter high schools from 14 states competed at the tournament.

A Fox Chapel Area High School student placed at the virtual 2022 North Allegheny Invitational Tournament. Sophomore Isabella White won third place overall in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.
Nearly 250 students representing 18 public, private, and charter high schools from four states participated in the Jan. 8 virtual tournament hosted by North Allegheny Senior High School.

Fox Chapel Area High School senior Patrick Alexander won fourth place overall in Student Congress at the virtual 2022 Pine-Richland Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament.
A total of 338 students representing 33 public, private, and charter high schools from four states participated in the tournament, sponsored by Pine-Richland High School.

Fox Chapel Area High School students Ian Mackey-Piccolo, Adhitya Thirumala, Isabella White, and Patrick Alexander have earned enough points by placing in various tournaments to qualify for the Pennsylvania High School Speech League state championships, which will be held March 18-19 at Bloomsburg University.
