FCA students place in science, history, geography bees

Eight Dorseyville Middle School students will be testing their knowledge of geography, history or science in national and international competitions after winning awards at the International Academic Competitions Latrobe Regional Finals.

Geography Bee

Seventh-grader William Henderson won second place in the IAC Geography Bee, and Lucas Ahern and Diego Pelfrey were named finalists in the seventh-grade competition. All three qualified for the IAC National Geography Bee Championships. William and Lucas also qualified for the International Geography Championships.

Simon Richter placed third in the eighth-grade Geography Bee and qualified for the IAC National Geography Bee Championships.

History Bee

Dorseyville Middle School eighth-grader Gabriel Yassin placed third in the eighth-grade History Bee competition, and seventh-graders Jonah Driver won third place. Steven Hu was named a finalist in the seventh-grade contest. All three students qualified for the IAC National History Bowl. Jonah qualified for the IAC International History Olympiad.

Science Bee

Dorseyville Middle School seventh-graders Jonah Driver won second place and Kanisk Gaurav Prakash won third place in the seventh-grade Science Bee. Both students have qualified for the IAC National Science Bee and the International Environmental Science Olympiad.

The regional IAC competitions were held Feb. 18 at Greater Latrobe Senior High School.

The Geography Bee, History Bee and National Science Bee championships will be held in June 2023 in Arlington, Va.

The International Geography Championships will be held in the summer of 2024.

The International History Olympiad will be held in Rome, Italy, in July 2023.

The International Environmental Science Olympiad will be held in Quito and Tena, Ecuador, in July 2023.
