Fox Chapel Area student achievements for the week of June 24, 2025
Three Fox Chapel Area School District students were named national winners in the 2025 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. In the writing portion of the national contest, Fox Chapel Area High School 2024-2025 freshman Eliana Wellman won a silver medal for her story “The Prankster” in the humor category; and Dorseyville Middle School 2024-2025 eighth-graders Kai Galyardt won a silver medal for her story “Things That Writhe” in the flash fiction category, and Celestial Hou won a silver medal for her story “The Visitor in the Dark,” also in the flash fiction category.
This year, more than 310,000 works of art and writing were submitted by students in grades 7-12 through regional contests. Prior to being named national winners, Eliana, Kai, and Celestial were named Gold Key winners in the 2025 Pittsburgh Region of the Scholastic Writing Awards.
A celebration of all national medalists will be June 11 at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Nate Duffy, Jack Henne, Nate Kuhns and Britta Lagerquist graduated from Grove City College on May 10. Students making the dean’s list for the spring 2025 semester were Kuhns, Lagerquist and Nate Dufreshmany.
Addie Piper has been named to Ohio University’s spring 2025 provost’s list. Jack Rice and Charles Saybel made the dean’s list.
Several Fox Chapel Area High School and Dorseyville Middle School students were inducted into Honor Societies for Students of German.
The Fox Chapel Area High School students inducted into the Honor Society for High School Students of German, Delta Epsilon Phi, are seniors Jack Bergmann, Noelle Dick, Benjamin Fiedler, Lindsay Gould, Patton Johnson, Weidi Li, Devon McDonald, Alaina OKunewick, Hannah Parker and Rebecca Poole; and juniors Charles Hahl and Ian Wellman.
The Dorseyville Middle School students inducted into the Junior Honor Society for Students of German, Junior Delta Epsilon Phi, are eighth-graders Charlotte Coutu, Rebecca Dorneich, Kai Galyardt, Peter “PJ” Hart, Sidera Kingman-Graves, Rishabh Krishnamurthy, Holden Link, Audrey Seiler, Rebecca Smith and Oren Wehler.
The Honor Societies for Students of German are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German and recognize the outstanding academic achievement of learners of German. In order to be inducted into the Honor Society for High School Students of German, students must be enrolled in the Advanced Placement German V class, have an overall GPA of at least 3.0, and at least a 3.5 GPA in German class. Students in the Junior Honor Society for Students of German must be in German II, have an overall GPA of at least 3.0, and a GPA of at least 3.5 in German class.
Mark Quillen has been named to the dean’s list at the University of Mount Union for the spring 2025 semester.
Jack Penland made the dean’s list at Shenandoah University for the spring 2025 semester.
Ray Worsen, who is majoring in mechanical engineering technology, made the dean’s list at the University of Pittsburgh Bradford campus for the spring 2025 semester.
