Fox Chapel Area student wins Colonial Dames essay

Fox Chapel Area High School freshman Joanna Li was among the winners of The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America National Congressional Essay Contest.

Joanna is one of 48 winners in the U.S. and one of two from Pennsylvania. The essay topic was “Examine the U.S. Constitution as a whole and explain why you think it does or does not fully protect the Right to Vote.”

As a national winner, Joanna will receive a full scholarship to attend the Congressional Seminar June 19-23 conducted by the Washington Workshops Foundation in Washington, D.C. She will join other winning students in model legislative processes and study tours to inspire and empower the next generation of leaders.

The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America, headquartered in Washington, D.C., promotes appreciation for the people, places, and events that led to the formation and development of the United States.

Founded in 1891, it is an association of 44 corporate societies with more than 15,000 members.
