Fox Chapel Area's student-run telethon raises $66,775 for Backpack for Hunger
Fox Chapel Area students pulled in $66,775 during their 34th annual telethon Dec. 22. The money will benefit Backpack for Hunger, a local volunteer organization that provides weekend food for students in the school district.
Students from all six of the district’s schools — Fairview, Hartwood, Kerr and O’Hara elementaries; Dorseyville Middle School; and Fox Chapel Area High School — participated in the telethon.
Members of the high school’s Fox Leadership Council and video production students planned and produced the event.
The telethon was broadcast live on the Swift Fox Media YouTube Channel. The video can be viewed at any time online at www.youtube.com/@SwiftFoxMedia.
To date, students and staff members have raised $1,188,268 for various local and regional charities.
The district continues to accept donations online at https://backpackforhunger.org/donate/.
Backpack for Hunger, a 100% donation-based organization, provides students with bags of nourishing food every Friday. The group also provides food to district children during the summer months through various programs. Since its inception in 2015, the group has distributed more than 85,000 bags of food.
