Fox Chapel Garden Club's Glitter & Glow hits 25 years of supporting green space
The Fox Chapel Garden Club is marking its 25th annual Glitter & Glow event by illuminating the need for public gardens and recreation throughout the Pittsburgh region.
Participants can enjoy a sip and a nibble in the opulent setting of the Fox Chapel Golf Club, all while perusing fresh arrangements styled by club members.
It is scheduled 7-9 p.m. Dec. 6. Tickets cost $35 and are available at foxchapelgardenclub.org.
“We will have over 200 arrangements of greenery and holiday house plants curated in stylish vessels using firs, cedars, berries and unique woodland offerings, all designed by Fox Chapel Garden Club members,” Co-Chair Wendy Mitchell said.
The evening offers networking and the chance to purchase one-of-a-kind arrangements, live plants, silent and teacup auction items, bundled natural greens, wreaths and handmade gifts.
Proceeds from past events have benefited Allegheny RiverTrail Park, Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, Friends of Mellon Park, Phipps Conservatory’s Home Grown Program and the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden.
The club also sponsors a scholarship each year awarded to a Fox Chapel Area High School graduating senior.
Glitter & Glow is the club’s main fundraising event to support gardening efforts throughout the area.
Mitchell said members began months ago prepping for the event and collaborating on their stylish creations.
“Club member Betty Manuck turns her three-story garage into our workshop where the ladies gather to make the magic happen,” she said.
“Setting up the workshop is a yearlong process that takes time, planning and collecting of items.”
A silent auction of stylish finery will take place, which includes a handmade Santa with a nod to Barbie – its sparkled cloak trimmed in pink fur.
Other items include a handmade vintage ornament topiary tree.
“Both of the items would be a conversation piece in your home this holiday season,” said Co-Chair Melissa Johnson.
She said the event wouldn’t be possible without the entire membership, which donates time, energy and creativity.
“At Glitter & Glow, our members are able to enjoy our camaraderie, the fruits of our labors and the joy of the holiday season — and the excitement our event creates for our community,” Johnson said.
