Fiction Writing Contest winners
Cooper-Siegel Community Library has announced the winners of the Stay-at-Home Fiction Writing Contest through which dozens of amateur writers submitted original works of short fiction. Themes focused on local Fox Chapel Area lore, ghost stories and tall tales.
The winners are:
– Youth First Prize ($350): Abraham White, “Obelisk.”
– Youth Runner-Up Prize ($150): Ainsley Good, “Galiel.”
– Youth Honorable Mention: Mia Lynch, “Fox Chapel Legend.”
– Adult First Prize ($350): Sandra Skowron, “Mrs. Darlington’s Home Run.”
– Adult Runner-Up Prize ($150): Caroline Evashavik, “The Old Man and the Gold.”
– Adult Honorable Mention: Jet Jaeger, “The 13th Bend.”
Library Board President Stephen Stallings said the response to the contest exceeded expectations, both in quality and quantity.
More than 30 entrants, adults and youth, submitted “fascinating local stories, tales and legends,” he said.
“My fellow judges – both of whom are accomplished local authors – were deeply impressed with the response. Choosing the winners was challenging and the Fox Chapel Area clearly boasts tremendous writing talent.”
Prize money was donated by a patron.
Belle Voci delaying season
Belle Voci is delaying the start of the upcoming concert season until 2021.
Rehearsals and concerts, including “Diamond Memories: Celebrating 60 Years of Motown,” which had been rescheduled for Oct. 4, 2020, are postponed until future notice.
Belle Voci members said they will continue to monitor the state guidelines regarding covid-19 before making decisions on when to resume rehearsals.
