Fox Chapel’s Hardie Valley Park was transformed with 1,200 candles scattered through the meadows and trails for a Summer Field Wander.
“It was a breathtaking celebration of nature, culture and community,” said Mandy Steele, co-founder of the Fox Chapel Parks Conservancy and borough councilwoman.
It was the third such event hosted by the conservancy, formed in 2020 to raise awareness of the borough’s park system and simply, to get people outdoors.
A special partnership with the Pittsburgh Opera saw singers performing under the stars and dancers from Attack Theatre moving through the night, Steele said.
Performers clustered among the glowing pathways where attendees could social distance to take in the stunning show, she said.
Hardie Valley is a 17-acre gem off Old Mill Road that is the newest borough park.
Earlier conservancy events have showcased other borough parks through the winter lantern installation at McCahill Park and a spring forest walk at Riding Meadow.
Up next is a fall lantern illumination at Trillium Trail, though the date is not yet confirmed.
