Here are 5 things to do in Pittsburgh this weekend: July 18-20
No plans for a summer vacation on the horizon? No worries. Take a staycation right here in Pittsburgh this weekend with a whole bunch of fun, active and relaxing events.
Vintage Grand Prix
A local tradition returns to Schenley Park this weekend. Gawk at — and cheer on — your favorite old-school cars at this year’s Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. Events are going on both Saturday and Sunday, so come down when you have time or hang out all weekend.
On both days, spectators can enjoy the Caliente International Car Show (held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday). This is a chance to get up close and see some of the coolest cars in the world, all set up in displays at the Bob O’Connor Golf Course in Schenley Park. There will also be food options, a cooling tent and a kids’ tent.
Both days will also include races from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The fun is on enhanced and revamped courses this year, so check if out even if you feel like you’ve seen it all before. Information on the whole race weekend can be found at pvgp.org.
Movie Night on the Lawn: ‘10 Things I Hate About You’
Nothing says summer like an outdoor movie. For your fix this weekend, head to Bakery Square’s courtyard to watch the 1999 teen romantic comedy “10 Things I Hate About You.”
The film stars Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles in a hilarious update of Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew.” It’s rated PG-13. The event is free and seating is first come first served on the courtyard lawn. Don’t forget to grab your complimentary popcorn, courtesy of Pittsburgh Popcorn Co.
The movie will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Bakery Square courtyard in East Liberty. Make sure you get there early enough to spread out your blanket and claim your spot. Learn more at bakery-square.com.

There will also be live music and games. Tickets are $30 per adult, and entry is free for those under the age of 21 and designated drivers. Sessions will run from 2-5 p.m. and 5:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Hartwood Acres. Get tickets at alleghenycounty.us.
‘The Prom’ at the Greer Cabaret Theater
In this bubbly contemporary musical, a small town prom gets a big spotlight when a pack of Broadway actors finds out that a teenage girl won’t be able to take her girlfriend to prom. With a lot of laughs and a few tearjerkers, this six-time Tony Award nominee will delight audiences.
The show was such a phenomenon that it was turned into a 2020 film for Netflix, directed by Ryan Murphy and starring Meryl Streep, James Corden, Nicole Kidman and Keegan Michael-Key.
Stage 62’s production at the Greer Cabaret Theater at 655 Penn Ave. in Downtown Pittsburgh will run through July 27, so get your tickets for this weekend or next. Performances will be at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. For tickets, visit trustarts.org.
