July 4 celebration at library

Cooper-Siegel Community Library in Fox Chapel will host a Fourth of July celebration from 6-9:45 p.m. Bring a picnic or snacks, enjoy lawn games and listen to a live reading of the Declaration of Independence. The event will be in the Fritz Mitnick Welcome Garden and Porch. Watch the fireworks from the parking lot. The event is free but space is limited. RSVP online at coopersiegelcommunitylibrary.org.

Alley Bash

An Alley Bash is planned for 5-8 p.m. June 26 along Alley A in Aspinwall.

It is presented by the Merchants of Aspinwall, Aspinwall Neighbors, Aspinwall Chamber of Commerce and the borough.

There will be various food and drink and craft vendors. Del Caiman Band will provide live entertainment.

The event is part of a summer series of celebrations on the fourth Thursday of the month from June through August.

Flea market

Sharpsburg’s community flea market is set for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday June through October along North Canal Street at Guyasuta Square.

Discover vintage treasures, handmade crafts and great deals from local vendors.

TOPS meetings

Take Off Pounds Sensibly meets each Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. for an interactive program focused on weight loss, healthy eating and wellness at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1261 Pennsylvania Ave., Oakmont. Visitors are welcome to attend their first TOPS meeting for free. Weigh-in is private, followed by a brief business meeting, sharing time and educational program, all ending by 7:15. Blood drive

Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church will host a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 29. Appointments are suggested but walk-ins are welcome. The event will be in the church lounge, 384 Fox Chapel Road.

Association of University People

The Association of University People invites singles 50 and over who are four-year college graduates to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include spring/summer picnics, monthly dinners, a book group, Scrabble, meeting up at local outdoor concerts and wineries.

Trail cleanup

On June 28, assistance is needed with habitat restoration in an important ecological area of Hartwood Acres.

Helpers should meet at the mansion parking lot. From 9 a.m. to noon, volunteers will use hand tools to remove invasive species. There also might be plantings of native species. Expect to engage in physical activity.

All tools, gloves and eye protection will be provided, and all ages are welcome. No experience is required, but space is limited. Participants should bring water and wear long pants and closed-toe shoes.
