County parks collecting Christmas trees for mulch
Allegheny County kicked off its annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program on Jan. 2 at all nine county parks, including at the Middle Road parking lot of Hartwood Acres Park.
Trees can be dropped off daily between 8 a.m. and dusk through Jan. 14.
All lights, decorations, tinsel and stands must be removed from the trees, which will be mulched and used throughout the park system’s 12,000-plus acres.
A list of drop-off locations is available online at https://www.alleghenycounty.us/Parks-and-Events/Events/Christmas-Tree-Recycling-Program.
During the 2022-23 program, more than 3,000 trees were recycled.
