Fox Chapel Newcomers Club

The Fox Chapel Newcomers club will hold the first meeting of the 2021-2022 year at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 10 at O’Hara Community Park. The meeting will be at the pavilion closest to the fenced-in playground.

Membership is open to anyone who has moved to the area within the past seven years, has moved into the communities that comprise the Fox Chapel Area School District or to a surrounding area that does not have a Newcomers’ Club. The membership fee is $20 (for September 2021 to May 2022).

La Roche college fair

More than 100 colleges and universities will participate in the North Pittsburgh College Fair from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 4 at La Roche University’s Kerr Fitness & Sports Center in McCandless.

One of the largest college fairs in Western Pennsylvania, the fair will host universities, colleges and technical schools from across the country.

High school students and their parents will have the chance to meet with representatives from each school to learn more about their campuses and academic programs.

Presented by La Roche and the Northern Area Counselor’s Consortium, the fair is organized by the following local school districts: Avonworth, Fox Chapel Area, Hampton, North Allegheny, Northgate, North Hills, Pine-Richland and Shaler Area.

Event parking is free, and face masks are required indoors.

Celebrity golf outing

The HM3, Jerome Bettis & BHS Foundation Celebrity Golf Outing is scheduled for Oct. 11 at Treesdale Golf & Country Club.

Registration is from 9:30 to 11 a.m., with an 11:30 shotgun start. The outing will be followed by a cocktail reception from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and dinner and entertainment from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

Celebrity golfers include Rocky Bleier, Neil Walker, Merril Hoge, Donnie Iris, Bob Pompeani, Jim Krenn and Craig Patrick. Foursomes and sponsorships are available. Visit hm3independencefund.org for more information.

Fundraiser walk

Brett and Jeannine Schoenecker of Valencia will host a fundraising walk and basket raffles Sept. 11 as part of the nationwide Walk to Defeat ALS movement.

The Brett’s Brew Buddies team will step off on its walk to benefit the ALS Association Western Pennsylvania Chapter from Old Thunder Brewing on Freeport Road in Blawnox. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with opening ceremonies to follow at 10.

“We are grateful to our local supporters including N’Stuff Music, Blawnox Borough and Old Thunder Brewing,” Mr. Schoenecker said.

The event is open to the public but early registration along with a donation is encouraged.

50-year reunion scheduled

Members of the Fox Chapel Area Class of 1971 are invited to the 50th reunion Sept. 24.

The celebration will be at the Syria Mosque in Cheswick from 5 to 11 p.m. in the outdoor pavilion.

A buffet dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Enjoy a night with DJ Grover and dance to music that includes oldies, ‘60s and ‘70s, soul, line dancing and requests.

Reservations after Sept. 1 cost $75.

Women’s Business Network

Women’s Business Network is an award-winning business association that supports the success and growth of women in business. WBN provides members with the tools to be successful, including networking, mastermind groups, and ongoing professional education, while expanding their circle of influence in the marketplace. All professional women are welcome to attend as a guest at a meeting for no cost. Some meetings are being held virtually.

Adopt-a-block program

The Best of Blawnox Organization introduces a new volunteer opportunity for community members.

Adopt-a-block is a volunteer program aimed at keeping the streets of Blawnox free from litter and debris.

Volunteers will be assigned one or more designated neighborhood blocks to clean up regularly.

The recommended commitment is a few times a month when it is convenient.
