Applications available

Fox Chapel is accepting applications for various positions on boards, commissions, committees and authorities.

These positions are appointed by borough council.

They include civil service commission, environmental advisory council, planning commission, park commission, zoning hearing board, finance, pension and salary committee, construction board of appeals and Fox Chapel Authority.

Forms are available on the borough website, fox-chapel.pa.us. Those interested should submit the form, along with their resume, to Shawn M. Peterson at speterson@fox-chapel.pa.us.

More recycling offered

O’Hara officials recently installed a recycling bin to accept corrugated cardboard in the township office parking lot, 325 Fox Chapel Road.

The cardboard must be able to slide into the recycling bin opening. No boxes should be left outside the container.

Cardboard can still be placed in residents’ recycling can at their homes.

Movie night

O’Hara will host a movie in the park at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at O’Hara Township Community Park.

The movie, “Trick or Treat Scooby Doo”, starts at dusk.

It is presented by the parks and recreation commission. More information is available at ohara.pa.us.

Boo Bash

National Honor Society students at Fox Chapel Area High School will sponsor their annual Boo Bash on Oct. 28 from noon to 1:30 p.m. for children in pre-kindergarten through third grade. Participants will trick-or-treat through the halls of the high school.

The event is free, but nonperishable food and monetary donations are suggested for several local charities. The donations will be accepted at the door.

Parents or guardians should park at the back of the school near the tennis courts and use the athletics/fox statue entrance. Children must be accompanied by an adult and should bring a bag for their treats.

Touch-a-Truck planned

Fox Chapel police will host a Touch-a-Truck event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 7 at the borough building, 401 Fox Chapel Road.

Police, firefighters, public works and Foxwall EMS will have their vehicles available for families to explore.

Others scheduled to participate include Vioral Towing, Ferra’s Towing, Trio Trucking, Indiana Township and Plum police, ABC Bus Co., Allegheny County SWAT and police bomb squad and mounted horses, Cooper-Siegel Community Library and food trucks.

Blood drive

Fox Chapel Area High School is hosting a community blood drive from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 18 in the large group instruction room. Everyone 16 and older is encouraged to donate.

Vitalant again is offering scholarships to area high school students based on percentage participation in blood drives and largest number of registered donations for the year. Anyone who donates blood at a local donor center can ask for the donation to count toward Fox Chapel Area High School’s total using the code UHS010025.

To schedule an appointment to donate blood, visit vitalant.org, call 1-877-25VITAL or use Vitalant’s mobile app and provide the school’s group code. Students can arrange an appointment with school counselor Rachel Machen. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins also are welcome.

The blood drive is being coordinated by the community outreach committee of the high school’s Fox Leadership Council.

Concert for ALS research

The Go-Getters for Bob Letters is sponsoring a concert by the Billy Price Band at 7 p.m. Oct. 6 to raise money for the ALS Association.

The fundraiser will be held at the Comfort Inn & Suites in RIDC Park, 180 Gamma Drive, O’Hara. All proceeds will benefit the ALS Association.

Letters, who owned Letters Roofing in Sharpsburg, died in 2021 of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, gradually robbing victims of the ability to speak, eat, move and breathe.
