Pasta dinner fundraiser
A pasta dinner fundraiser to benefit the Michele Sybo Coleman Family Fund is set for 3 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 3 at the Parkview Social Hall, 726 Midway Dr., in O’Hara.
Tickets for the dinner are available via presale for $10 (13 and older) or $6 (ages 4-12). Tickets at the door will cost $ 15. The dinner includes pasta, meatballs, salad, roll and butter, a drink and dessert. There will be music by DJ Larry, and the Steelers game will be shown on the TV.
A Chinese auction and a 50/50 raffle will also be part of the event.
The fund has been set up to help with medical expenses for Michele Sybo Coleman’s nephew, who was the victim of a head-on collision at the hands of a hit-and-run driver. He sustained multiple injuries requiring multiple surgeries with more to come.

Niche ranks SSA atop rankings
Shady Side Academy has been ranked No. 1 on the list of the Best Private K-12 Schools in the Pittsburgh Area, according to Niche, the leading platform connecting students and families with schools and colleges.
Niche released its 2022 Best Schools rankings, and Shady Side continued to be ranked No. 1 in the Pittsburgh area in the categories of Best Private High Schools, Best College Prep Private High Schools, Best Boarding High Schools and Best High Schools for STEM. It was ranked No. 2 in the Most Diverse Private High Schools category.
Shady Side Academy was also the top-rated independent school in the category of Best High Schools for Athletes in the Pittsburgh Area, coming in at No. 4 overall behind North Allegheny, Central Catholic and Upper St. Clair.

Pumpkin sale
Haiti H2O: Hope to Opportunity will hold a pumpkin sale hosted by and located at Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, 384 Fox Chapel Road on Oct. 1-4. Inventory is limited. Bales of hay and fall mums will also be available. Proceeds from the sale will support the people of Haiti in the aftermath of the recent earthquake.
The sale will continue until all the pumpkins are gone. Hours of operation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday and Monday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Small pumpkins will be $10, medium $15 and large $20. Bales of hay and mums will be sold for $10 each.
Celebrity golf outing
The HM3, Jerome Bettis & BHS Foundation Celebrity Golf Outing is scheduled for Oct. 11 at Treesdale Golf & Country Club.
Registration is from 9:30 to 11 a.m., with an 11:30 shotgun start. The outing will be followed by a cocktail reception from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and dinner and entertainment from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

La Roche college fair
More than 100 colleges and universities will participate in the North Pittsburgh College Fair from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 4 at La Roche University’s Kerr Fitness & Sports Center in McCandless.
One of the largest college fairs in Western Pennsylvania, the fair will host universities, colleges and technical schools from across the country.
High school students and their parents will have the chance to meet with representatives from each school to learn more about their campuses and academic programs.
Presented by La Roche and the Northern Area Counselor’s Consortium, the fair is organized by the following local school districts: Avonworth, Fox Chapel Area, Hampton, North Allegheny, Northgate, North Hills, Pine-Richland and Shaler Area.
Event parking is free, and face masks are required indoors.

Knox Walks For Fitness
Knox Walks for Fitness is a community walking group in Blawnox that promotes fun and fitness. The group meets for walks Mondays at 6 p.m., weather permitting.
Participants should meet at the Blawnox Community Park or can join the walk along the route. The group walks a 1.5-mile lap that ends back at the park. A second lap will take place if enough people are interested.
The weekly event is sponsored by The Best of Blawnox, LLC.
Tennis shoe recycling
The Fox Chapel Garden Club is collecting used sneakers and putting them to good use via the NIKE recycling program in Grove City. Sneakers will be collected through Oct. 1
The sneakers will be recycled and used to build tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds, and running tracks. Gently used sneakers will be donated to FREE STORE.
Look for large colorful recycling boxes at local gyms, golf clubs, schools, libraries and churches.
Cleats will not be accepted.

The Best of Blawnox will be sponsoring a Harvest Festival on Oct. 9 from noon to 4 p.m. at Blawnox Community Park/Center Avenue.

Women’s Business Network
Women’s Business Network is an award-winning business association that supports the success and growth of women in business. WBN provides members with the tools to be successful, including networking, mastermind groups, and ongoing professional education, while expanding their circle of influence in the marketplace. Adopt-a-block program
The Best of Blawnox Organization introduces a new volunteer opportunity for community members.
Adopt-a-block is a volunteer program aimed at keeping the streets of Blawnox free from litter and debris.
Volunteers will be assigned one or more designated neighborhood blocks to clean up regularly.
The recommended commitment is a few times a month when it is convenient.
