Meghan’s Laundry Service owner Meghan Hughes of Indiana Township.

When life gets dirty, Meghan Hughes of Indiana Township is offering to help clean it up.

Caroline Quinn, also of Indiana Township, was a busy mom when Hughes provided a laundry lifeline of sorts.

“I was overwhelmed with a newborn and needed one less thing on my plate,” Quinn said.

Quinn hired Meghan’s Laundry Service to handle her children’s clothing.

“Meghan is friendly, professional and fast. Her service has saved me time and my sanity,” Quinn said.

Hughes opened Meghan’s Laundry Service in June, offering mobile laundry services that include pickup and delivery and a wash, dry and fold result.

“Say goodbye to laundry day stress and let me handle the dirty work — literally,” Hughes said.

It’s the next cycle in her life as Hughes prepares to send her two school-age children to school this month to Hartwood Elementary School.

“I want to ramp up for fall because my son will be in full-day kindergarten and this is a side hustle,” Hughes said. “I worked at PNC and I was a manager and calling the shots. I want to work for myself — for the time and flexibility with my home life.”

Hughes promises a 48-hour pick-up and return at the customer’s residence.

She accepts clients from municipalities within the Fox Chapel Area School District (Aspinwall, Blawnox, Fox Chapel, O’Hara, Indiana Township and Sharpsburg) and Oakmont.

Customers include senior citizens, busy moms, professionals and anyone who just wants a break from laundry tasks.

Hughes said she honed her folding skills when she managed a Fashion Bug, a former retail clothing store.

Hughes, 42, grew up in North Irwin and graduated from Norwin High School in 2001.

She left a decade-long management career in the banking industry to be a homemaker to her husband, son and daughter.

She co-owns the Sharpsburg Laundromat on Main Street in Sharpsburg and was inspired to start a mobile wash business by a random homemaker’s Instagram post.

“A mom in Georgia posted about her laundry business and I’ve realized that people would rather pay to outsource whatever tasks they can,” Hughes said.

Hughes does all of the personal laundry at her house and only uses the laundromat to clean and dry oversized items.

Customers are charged a flat $5 pick up and delivery fee and orders are $35 per large bag of clothes.

Hughes uses Persil detergent and Downy Free-and-Clear or the customer can provide their own detergent.

She washes at home seven days a week, utilizing a large-capacity washer and dryer.

Clothing, large blankets, bedding, dog beds and pillows are accepted.

Ironing isn’t included.

Hughes picks up and delivers the clean and folded clothes in a bag on the client’s doorstep if they’re not home, delivers in person or works with the client for the best delivery option.

“I have had two consistent customers so far and a lot of questions and inquiries about it. I am one person doing this and I’m looking to accept more clients,” Hughes said.

Not all households in the Fox Chapel Area School District need help with laundry, Hughes has learned.

“The biggest obstacle is getting the word out because the groups limit how often you can post a business,” she said. “Also, the nannies and house cleaners often do the laundry — that’s what I’m discovering.”

But new moms, full-time working folks, single men and senior citizens are all prime candidates for her laundry business, Hughes noted.

Retiree Ellie Simmons lives in O’Hara with her husband and has two daughters who live nearby.

Her daughters told Ellie about Hughes new laundry gig and Simmons loves the ultra-convenience of the mobile service.

“We were going to the laundromat for the bulky stuff in Springdale,” Simmons said. “But I like to use Meghan’s when I get busy.”

Simmons said Hughes takes away clothes washing hassles and plans to use her services monthly.

“It just amazing and in retirement, it makes life easier for us. She does a terrific job,” Simmons said.
