Glass recycling event planned in Tarentum

A glass recycling event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills in Tarentum.

People can drop off glass bottles, jars and jugs of all colors. Containers can be mingled but should be empty and rinsed.

Sponsored by the Pennsylvania Resources Council, the traveling glass recycling bin program serves residents in communities which no longer accept glass in curbside collections.

The free service will also be in Hampton from Oct. 10 to 15 and Plum from Oct. 24 to 29.

Food drive set for Oct. 25

O’Hara will be sponsoring a BOOTASTIC touchless food drive from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 25 in the municipal parking lot along Fox Chapel Road.

Items collected include nonperishable items that may be used as side dishes for Thanksgiving, including vegetables, boxed stuffing, boxed potatoes, cranberry sauce and gravy.

Items will be given to a local food bank to help neighbors in need.

Anyone who wants to donate should follow the directional signs, park and place their items in the bed of the township trucks in the parking lot.

Staff members will be there to answer questions and provide touchless assistance. Everyone is asked to wear face coverings and social distance.

Treat bags will be available for children dropping off donations.

Glenshaw Century Club to host drive-thru dinner

The Glenshaw Century Club will host a drive-thru dinner fundraiser from 3 to 7 p.m. Nov. 6.

Catered by Heavenly Cuisine, food will be available for pickup at Glenshaw Valley Presbyterian Church, 1520 Butler Plank Road, Glenshaw.

The menu is roasted turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, cranberry sauce, coleslaw and pumpkin pie.

The cost is $15 per meal.

Canned goods collection scheduled for Oct. 31

Sharpsburg residents can donated canned goods to help the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry during a collection Oct. 31 by the Western Pennsylvania Alumni Association of Alpha Phi Omega.

Members will go door-to-door to collect from 6 to 8 p.m and said they are in particular need of Thanksgiving items such as boxed stuffing, canned vegetables, cranberry sauce and potatoes.

To follow social distancing, donations can be placed on porches in marked bags.

Roadwork to require single-lane restrictions

Work along a section of Saxonburg Boulevard in O’Hara will cause single-lane restrictions through Oct. 23.

Crews will be working between Fugger Road and Francioni Lane from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. daily.

Self-regulating stop signs will assist motorists through the work zone.

PennDOT crews will be doing masonry wall repairs and drainage improvements.
