O'Hara awards smaller-than-usual road paving project because of covid-19 impacts
O’Hara residents will see about $275,000 in road paving but it won’t be until fall, council said during its meeting July 14.
Council approved the 2020 road improvement contract to Tresco Paving, with township Manager Julie Jakubec saying it is a scaled back program because of covid-19 impacts.
“There’s no way to predict the (earned income and local services) tax collections for the second quarter,” Jakubec said.
Roads to be paved include Harding and Oakhurst roads, Grove Street, a portion of Alleyne Drive and a portion of Alpha Drive at Freeport Road.
Engineer Chuck Steinert said work is expected sometime in late September or October.
The project will be reconsidered after a review of second-quarter collections, Jakubec said.
“If they come in higher than modeled, there’s a possibility that other roads could be added,” she said.
In 2019, O’Hara spent nearly $1.1 million on roads that included several in RIDC Park.
Council during the meeting also approved the purchase of a police vehicle to replace one involved in an accident.
“The insurance company is totaling the car and the township will receive $25,656 from the other individual’s insurance,” Jakubec said.
