Pittsburgh Bereavement Doulas, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting families navigating the difficult journey of pregnancy loss, hosted its first Mardi Gras-themed fundraiser on Feb. 28 at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh on the North Shore.

Proceeds from the event helped to raise funds to provide services, education and emotional support to families experiencing miscarriage, stillbirth, termination for medical reasons or a baby with a life-limiting diagnosis.

“It was an amazing evening,” said Heather Bradley of O’Hara, founder and executive director of the organization.

Bradley said the festive atmosphere created by Pittsburgh-based Pure Gold Singers, strolling entertainment, magicians, tarot reading and live dancers made it a magical night.

The evening for 120 guests included New Orleans-inspired drinks, appetizers and dinner and an interactive customizable dessert station.

Guests wore their Mardi Gras best.

Pittsburgh Bereavement Doulas hosts a memorial event, Light & Unite, annually on Oct. 15 for Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. The seventh annual Light & Unite will be held at The Stables at Hartwood Acres Park in Indiana and Hampton townships.
