The long-anticipated Harvest on Main Community Market has announced an opening date in Sharpsburg.

The nonprofit, fresh foods market will debut March 2, according to Bonnie DeMotte, executive director of Second Harvest.

The grocery store will feature a deli, freshly prepared to-go foods, a bakery, quality meats and cheeses, fresh salads and made-to-order salads, wraps and protein forward meals.

“It’s beautiful,” DeMotte said of the interior of the space that was formerly Brother Tom’s Bakery at 808 Main St. in Sharpsburg’s business district.

Shoppers will be able to use Food Buck and EBT/SNAP benefits, and all goods will be priced below-market.

Harvest on Main will be the only food market in the borough with fresh produce.

The new sign went up Feb. 11, and the market is the latest expansion project from the nonprofit Second Harvest Community Thrift Store, located a few blocks behind Second on Main.

DeMotte said the market not only provides a much-needed solution to Sharpsburg’s food desert status, but she praised retail manager Jamie Kozlowski’s hands-on approach to management.

“For Jamie, this market is about more than food — it’s about being welcomed, remembered and cared for in small, meaningful ways. From knowing what’s on the shelf to knowing your name, she’s helping create a place where neighbors will feel seen,” DeMotte said.
