Parks are slowly reopening in the Lower Valley, with O’Hara announcing Friday that all facilities — including playgrounds — are welcoming visitors.

Basketball courts, the sand volleyball court at Squaw Valley Park and flex courts are all open in O’Hara, though township officials are still not renting pavilions.

In Aspinwall, basketball courts are open and other high-touch areas could follow soon.

The borough’s parks committee is expected to meet Monday to review the status of still-closed facilities like restrooms and playgrounds.

Facilities in each community closed to users nearly two months ago to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. Trails remained open for people to walk or bike as they could follow social distancing guidelines.

When Allegheny County entered the green phase June 5, park amenities throughout the Lower Valley began opening with low-volume areas like baseball fields, tennis courts and pickleball courts first.
