FCAHS students earn business awards

Three Fox Chapel Area High School students placed at the 2023 Future Business Leaders of America National Leadership Conference.

The team of 2022-2023 sophomores Kai Edwards and Gabriella Hample won second place in Hospitality Management, and 2022-2023 freshman Joshua Shah was awarded sixth place in Introduction to Financial Math.

The FBLA National Leadership Conference was held in Atlanta June 27-30. Approximately 10,000 students from high schools across the nation participated.

FCAHS business education teacher Christina Congalton is the FBLA sponsor.

First day of school is Aug. 29 for all students in the Fox Chapel Area School District.

Football Boosters fundraiser

Fox Chapel Area High School Football Booster volunteers are hosting a “Farewell Summer” Concert Festival noon to 10 p.m., Sept. 3 at the Dive Bar & Grille in Indiana Township, 3410 Saxonburg Rd.

The event is rain or shine.

The fundraiser will benefit the football team that includes 67 varsity players and 47 seventh and eighth graders.

New this year at the festival is an all-ages corn hole tournament. Participants are guaranteed a minimum of six games and the payout will be based on the number of entries. The cost to play is $20 per person.

Basket raffles and a 50/50 will be offered.

Scheduled musical acts include DJ Scar, reggae group Ras Prophet and the Tina Daniels Band.

Public relations awards

The Fox Chapel Area School District won 11 national awards in the 2023 National School Public Relations Association Publications and Digital Media Excellence Awards contest.

The district received top awards of Excellence in the E-Newsletter category, in the Excellence in Writing category and in the Magazine category, earning two awards.

The district won awards of Merit in the Annual Report category; in the Excellence in Writing category; in the Internet/Intranet Website category; and in the Magazine category. It also received awards of Merit for two articles — “75-Year-Old Veteran Surprised with Diploma” and “Stand Together Initiative Boosts Peer Support, Understanding” — published in the spring 2022 IN Fox Chapel Area community magazine.
