Sharpsburg awarded county grant to install ADA ramps at various intersections
Sharpsburg officials plan to make several intersections more pedestrian friendly via grant-funded projects.
Manager Christine DeRunk said the borough recently received $30,092 in Allegheny County Community Development Block Grant funds to make Americans with Disabilities Act accessible ramps.
It is a fully-funded grant, meaning the borough does not have to contribute any matching funds.
Proposed ramp locations are as follows:
• South side of First Street and South Main Street.
• North and south sides of 10th Street and Clay Street.
• North side of Clay Street and Linden Avenue.
• North side of Clay Street and 11th Street.
“The ramps are necessary to make the sidewalks accessible for persons with disabilities,” DeRunk said. “The intersections are old and did not have ramps up to the current standards. Each year, we try to replace more ramps. It is not part of a larger project.
DeRunk said the borough is working with the county on a grant agreement, and it is unclear when the project may go out for bid.
