Matthew Brudnock, seen on the left at his swearing in ceremony for Sharpsburg council in January 2018, is resigning from the board due to a move from the borough.

Those interested in helping to steer the future of Sharpsburg have a chance — there is an open seat on council effective July 31.

Council member Matt Brudnok is resigning because he’s moving out of the borough.

He was elected in November 2017 and was sworn into office in January 2018. Brudnok could not be reached for comment but has said previously his goal was to improve transparency and community engagement during his time on the council.

Applicants interested in serving out the balance of his term must be a registered voter and have lived in the borough for at least one year.

Party affiliation does not matter, Manager Bill Rossey said.

The appointee will fill the term until Dec. 31.

Rossey said a two-year council seat will be placed on the ballot in November and the winner will serve through 2021.

Anyone interested can apply by submitting a letter by Aug. 19 to 1611 Main Street, Sharpsburg, PA 15215.
