Brittany Reno was sworn in Jan. 3 as the new mayor of Sharpsburg.

Sharpsburg has a new mayor, council president and vice president.

Brittany Reno was sworn in as mayor by District Judge Matthew Rudzki at a reorganization meeting Jan. 3.

Reno then swore in council members Karen Pilarski-Pastor and newcomers Kayla Portis, Carrie Tongarm and Sara Ishman.

Adrianne Laing was named president, and Pilarski-Pastor was named vice president.

Brian Kozera was also elected to council in November. In a letter to The Herald on Jan. 7, he said he was not taking his seat because he is leaving the area. He said he informed the borough manager of this on Dec. 23.

Borough Manager Bill Rossey could not be reached for comment on Jan. 7.

Council could appoint someone to fill the vacancy in February after it is advertised.

The reorganization meeting was recorded via Zoom and posted on the borough’s website, sharpsburgborough.com.
