Sharpsburg will unveil the next murals in its “Beyond the Ceiling” project on June 15.

The next two murals in Sharpsburg’s “Beyond the Ceiling” project will be unveiled on June 15.

The five-part series is aimed at honoring a group of unsung female heroes in the borough, all nominated by residents for their dedication to the community.

Photo murals highlight women who have gone above and beyond for their neighbors, local organizations and families, officials said.

The public is invited for the reveal of Evelyn Shoop’s photo at 10:30 a.m. at 101 North Main Street near the Etna-Sharpsburg Gateway and then the unveiling at 11:15 a.m. of Barbara Smith’s tribute at the Linden Gym, at Clay and North Canal streets.

The project is paid for by The Heinz Endowments and Sharpsburg Neighborhood Organization, and was done in conjunction with Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Martha Rial.

After the unveilings, people are invited to Ketchup City Creative at 612 Main Street to meet Rial and have refreshments.

The first three murals were installed and revealed last October, honoring Jamie Cozza, Mary Jayne Kozlowski and five female Sharpsburg volunteer firefighters.

Cozza, a longtime library volunteer, has a mural at 701 Main Street; Kozlowski, a mainstay at Roots of Faith outreach, has a mural at the Kenneth Curley Parklet at the corner of Eighth and Clay streets; and the volunteer firefighters tribute is at the department along Main Street.
