The winning foursome in the 2019 Fox Chapel Rotary Golf Classic, with a 10-under-par round, is Dan Bieter, Brian French, Ron Stump and Marshall McKallip.

The Rotary Club of Fox Chapel Area brought in more than $34,000 at its annual Charity Golf Classic, much of which will be donated to help Camp Guyasuta recover from flood damage sustained in 2018.

Portions of the money will also be distributed to local and international charities, Walter Jenkins, club president, said. The list of recipients will be released later this summer, he said.

Hosted May 20 at River Forest Country Club in Freeport, the golf outing is the club’s primary fundraiser.

Camp Guyasuta, straddled between O’Hara and Sharpsburg, sustained more than $450,000 in damage during the July 2018 floods.

Ranger Mike Daniher said storm water rushed down the camp’s hillside with enough force to move a 5,000-pound wooden bridge more than 100 yards downstream.

Money raised at the golf outing will be used to cover costs of reconstructing the bridge.

Founded in 1918, the Boy Scouts of America-owned camp sits on 130 acres of land and is used by thousands of visitors each year for camping, team-building exercises and hiking. In addition to scouts, the camp is used by businesses, residents and schools.

Daniher said it has taken a full year to restore the camp from flood damage.

The Fox Chapel branch of the Rotary was formed in 1971 and operates with the mission of “Service Above Self.”

This year, a field of 90 golfers hit the greens. Jim Michaels was the event chair and Nancy Speed led the raffle and auctions.

The longest drive awards went to Brian French and Sherry Ehrlich.

Longest putts were made by Jeff Todd and Beth Williams, and closest to the pins were Ken Danchenka and Jenna Hendry.

Past beneficiaries of the club’s golf outing have included Aspinwall Meals on Wheels, Backpacks for Hunger and St. Margaret Foundation.

The Rotary meets at 11:45 a.m. Wednesdays at the Pittsburgh Field Club. Guests and new members are welcome, Jenkins said.
