Five Fox Chapel Area High School students won awards in speech and debate tournaments.
• Mars Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament, Feb. 18: junior Adhitya Thirumala and sophomore Moonyoung Hwang won first place in policy debate; sophomore Swati Mylarappa won fourth place in commentary, and freshman Ulyana Kubini received fifth place in original oratory and sixth place in informative speaking.
• Pine-Richland Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament, Jan. 20: Freshman Ulyana Kubini won fifth place in original oratory.
• The virtual Aaron Thomas Memorial Debate Tournament, Jan. 19-20, Cyprus High School, Florida: Thirumala and Hwang won fifth place in policy debate.
• Dalmasse Sterner Steel City Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament, Jan. 12-13, Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School: Thirumala and Hwang won first place in policy debate. Senior Sonny Hur won fifth place in impromptu speaking.
• The virtual Sparkle Season Spectacular Speech and Debate Tournament, Dec. 17, Upper St. Clair High School: Thirumala and Hwang won third place in policy debate; and freshman Ulyana Kubini was awarded fourth place in original oratory.
• North Catholic High School Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament, Dec. 10: Freshman Ulyana Kubini won fifth place in original oratory.

Five Fox Chapel Area High School students won awards at two Model United Nations Conferences.
• Duquesne University High School Model UN Conference, Feb. 17: Junior Connor Mazzoni was named the Outstanding Delegate (first place); and junior Isabella White and sophomore Swati Mylarappa received Excellent Delegate awards (second place).
• American University Model UN Conference, Feb. 3-5: junior Logan Dressman won a Diplomacy Award (first place). Senior Davina Chang won an Honorable Delegate award (third place).

Fox Chapel Area High School sophomore Malik Choset was selected by audition to perform with the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 1 Honors Jazz Ensemble that performed at Seton Hill University Feb. 18.

Eleven Fox Chapel Area High School students were selected to perform with the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 1 Chorus, Jan. 13 at Thomas Jefferson High School. The students are: seniors Nathan Moore, Ryder Smith and Sam Smith; and juniors Eliza Davis, Emily Harajda, Claire Kinst, Jack Lynch, Kristopher Pizzella, Sophia Rike and Micah Shelley. Senior Lawrence Liu was selected to be the festival’s piano accompanist.

A team of Fox Chapel Area High School students took home two awards in the Carnegie Science Center’s recent SciYinz Squad Chain Reaction competition. The students won a People’s Choice award and an award for Best Presentation.
The students were seniors James Harris, William Rice, and Sydney Ward; juniors Maria Costantino, Sophia Gass, and Jillian Stahl; and sophomores Rebecca Chang, Alex Kim, Kyle Matthew Ong, Sangyon Park, Hyunoh Ro, Gretchen Shelestak, Maria Stiger, and Samuel Ummer.
The SciYinz Squad competitions are fun, impromptu challenges that encourage teamwork and creativity while addressing basic scientific principles and concepts.
