Here are some of the top stories from across the Lower Valley for the week of Nov. 1:

Aspinwall awarded $537,000 from ALCOSAN

The Western Avenue sewer project in Aspinwall will be paid in large part with money from the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN).

The borough has been awarded $537,199 through ALCOSAN’s GROW program, with work expected to start in spring.

Fox Chapel lands nearly $450,000 for park upgrades

Fox Chapel was awarded a nearly $450,000 grant to help with development of Hardie Valley Park.

In all, work is expected to total $3.3 million and will be aimed at improving open space, preserving water resources and providing passive recreation.

Money was made available through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Chick-fil-A moving along in O’Hara

Work continues on the construction of fast food giant, Chick-fil-A, going up along Freeport Road in O’Hara.

The restaurant will open at the far end of Fox Chapel Plaza where Rita’s Ice once stood.

Fox Chapel falls to Penn-Trafford in field hockey championships

The Penn-Trafford field hockey team beat Fox Chapel to win the WPIAL Class AA field hockey championships.

The Warriors remained perfect on the season and claimed their fifth straight title with a 2-1 victory over Fox Chapel.
