Here are some of the week’s top stories from the Lower Valley:

Fox Chapel set to open new park

Hardie Valley Park, a 17-acre parcel in Fox Chapel, is set to open Oct. 17.

Plans are underway for a six-year, $3.3 million development that includes major wetland restoration and trails.

Notably, a former home on the property off Old Mill Road was once Fred Rogers’ weekend getaway.

Trick-or-treat set to carry on

It appears that trick-or-treat won’t be sidelined across the Lower Valley because of covid-19.

Municipal leaders said the Halloween tradition will carry on this year, although they are urging participants to follow CDC safety guidelines.

Sharpsburg eyes body cameras for police

The purchase of 11 body cameras for Sharpsburg police is hoped to assist operations.

Chief Tom Stelitano said the cameras could give residents a glimpse at officers’ dealings on a daily basis.

State grant, private donation will pay for upgrades at Sharpsburg parks

A state grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will be used to upgrade two Sharpsburg parks.

Money will be used to install rubber surfaces, buy new play units, create ADA accessibility and erect new fencing.

The grant will be matched by a private donation.
