Here are some of the top stories of the week of Dec. 20:
– Blawnox property taxes remain steady.
Blawnox residents will pay the same real estate taxes to the borough in 2021 after council approved the borough’s budget.
With the property tax rate at 9.85 mills, the owner of a home assessed at $100,000 will again pay $985 to the borough.
Council agreed that revenue losses from the covid-19 pandemic make it necessary to skip the yearly paving program.
– Fox Chapel Area School Board reorganizes, elects new leadership.
Fox Chapel Area School Board elected Marybeth Dadd and Ron Frank as new president and vice president.
Both were elected to the board in 2019.
Dadd said her priority is to help families get through the covid-19 pandemic.
– Fox Chapel Area Adult Education gears up for remote semester.
Fox Chapel Area Adult Education opens its winter semester on Jan. 4 with up to 30 classes offered entirely online.
FCAAE, founded in 1963, is an outreach program of the Fox Chapel Area School District dedicated to providing enrichment classes to adults at a low tuition. One-night and multi-week classes are offered.
Winter classes will include Spanish and German languages, Mah Jongg, art, cooking and history, among others.
– O’Hara appoints new councilperson to fill vacancy in 3rd Ward.
Republican Greg Caprara will represent the township’s 3rd Ward through 2021.
He is serving the remainder of a term vacated last month by Scott Frankowski.
