Here are some of the past week’s top stories from across the Lower Valley:
• Fox Chapel approves tentative budget with no tax increase
Fox Chapel residents will likely pay the same real estate taxes to the borough in 2021 thanks to council’s tentative approval of an $8.6 million budget.
The property tax rate is expected to remain the same at 2.95 mills.
If the final budget is approved, the owner of a home assessed at $200,000 will again pay $590 to the borough.
• Fox Chapel Area students stream live telethon on Dec. 23 to support Sharpsburg library
Fox Chapel Area High School’s telethon will stream live Dec. 23.
Events will benefit the Sharpsburg Community Library. Last year’s telethon also benfited the library, raising $46,521.
• Giant Eagle to leave one of its corporate offices in O’Hara
As a result of the covid-19 pandemic and many employees working from home, Giant Eagle will not renew its lease at 701 Alpha Drive in O’Hara.
It is one of three office buildings it occupies in RIDC Park.
• Sharpsburg Neighborhood Organization receives tax credits to assist with programs
Sharpsburg Neighborhood Organization, a nonprofit along South Main Street, will receive $75,000 in state tax credits to assist with employment programs and training for residents.
Money was made available through the Neighborhood Assistance Program of the Department of Community and Economic Development.
