University Women honor several for work in promoting equity
Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Debra Todd was honored at a Fox Chapel luncheon for her work in promoting equity for women and girls.
The Fox Chapel Area branch of the American Association of University Women honored Todd with its Gateway to Equity Award at a May ceremony at Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church.
Publicity Coordinator Lindsay Totten said Todd was cited in part for her work in addressing issues of sexual assault and abuse and helping victims through Pennsylvania’s court system.
Sharing the award was Ruth Fox, CEO of Allegheny Family Network, a nonprofit that advocates for children dealing with emotional and mental health challenges. Fox, a Cheswick resident, has served as the network’s head since 2008.
“As part of its mission to encourage women pursuing careers in STEM fields, the AAUW also honored three recent graduates of Chatham University with Career Launching Awards,” Totten said.
Mary Fehl received a degree in biology, Haley Racciopo majored in environmental science, and Kaitlyn Ritter studied biochemistry. All three recipients are Western Pennsylvania natives.
The awards came with a $1,000 grant to help support next steps in each woman’s professional journey.
Within the club, Outstanding Woman of the Year awards went to Frances Dice and Tish Klingensmith, two members who have assumed leadership responsibilities within the past year.
Judith Matheny was recognized for her service to the organization with the Member Making a Difference Award.
The mission of the AAUW is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. Members meet monthly and programs are open to the public free of charge.
