The fitness center at Lauri Ann West Community Center in O’Hara will close tonight for equipment upgrades.
The closure, which is expected to last three days, also effects the indoor track.
The fitness center is a paid gym inside the community center at 1220 Powers Run Road. It is expected to reopen at 6 a.m. Friday, May 3.
Cost of the project was not released.
Director of Development Jamie Rhoades said the remainder of the center will be open for typical hours. The community center serves residents of the Fox Chapel Area School District and encompasses a 28,000-square-foot facility on 11 acres. There is a basketball court, programming rooms and a multi-purpose event room.
Rhoades said Group Ex classes, personal training and other programs will run on schedule during the fitness center closure.
“As a bonus, for those of you who don’t want to miss your workout just because there’s no equipment, we are offering additional Group Ex classes,” she said.
They are: Tabata at 6 to 6:30 p.m. tonight; Bootcamp from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Suspension Training from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Group Ex classes are for fitness center members. Those classes as well as personal training will be offered in other spaces throughout the community center during the upgrade, Rhoades said.
No work is being done to the track. It is closed for safety, she said.
“We’re excited for this upgrade that will enhance the experience for our members,” Rhoades said. “It will give us more training and stretching space in addition to brand new, increased cardio equipment.”
The community center underwent a $9 million construction project in 2015.
