A Pittsburgh fugitive convicted a decade ago of attempted homicide was taken into custody Friday by the Allegheny County sheriff’s department.
Officials said Tyrus Campbell, 35, was located at a Reed Street home in Pittsburgh’s Hill District. After surveillance of the residence, detectives gained entrance, found him at the top of a stairway and took him into custody without issue, according to a news release issued Sunday.
According to court records, Campbell had been on the lam since last month after a warrant was issued for his arrest following allegations of probation and parole violations, as well as pending charges of strangulation and simple assault filed against him in November by Pittsburgh police.
Campbell pleaded guilty in June 2014 to eight felony offenses that included attempted homicide, aggravated assault and a weapons offense. He was sentenced to serve 6-to-12 years in prison and an additional eight years on probation. According to the state Department of Corrections, Campbell was paroled from state prison in June 2023.
