North Allegheny Air Force JROTC Cadet Curtis Rhoten of McCandless has received a full scholarship through the JROTC program.

North Allegheny senior Curtis Rhoten, a member of the school’s Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, has received a fully paid J100 Character-in-Leadership Scholarship.

The scholarship from the JROTC program provides four years of fully-paid tuition at a school or university, with an AFROTC detachment; a $10,000 per-year allowance for university-owned or on-campus housing; an annual book stipend; and a monthly cadet stipend, according to Lt. Col. (ret) Don Accamando, an instructor for North Allegheny’s AF JROTC program.

Approximately 400 cadets nationwide applied. The top 200 candidates nominated were interviewed and 100 were awarded a scholarship.

Rhoten, of McCandless, plans to pursue a degree in aviation with a possible minor in meteorology.

Rhoten was also a scholarship recipient of the US Air Force JROTC 2022’s Private Pilot Certification program this past summer. The scholarship is awarded to cadets of the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps in high schools across the nation.
