GOP takes 3 out of 4 Bethel Park Council seats
Republicans took three out of the four council seats up for election on Nov. 7, according to unofficial Allegheny County results.
Ward 4 incumbent Todd S. Cenci joined Kimberly Kamenicky, Ward 2, and Jim Jenkins, Ward 6, in winning on the GOP tickets. Democrat Viola Garis won in Ward 8.
“It’s a truly honor to have been elected by the voters for another four years,” Cenci said. “I will continue to respond to all citizens’ issues and make Bethel Park the best municipality in the county.”
He received 806 votes and Democratic challenger Brendan D. McCarthy, 661.
“To our brave men and women on the police department, thank you for your support, and it will be an honor to work with you for the next four years,” Cenci further stated. “Last but not least, a special thanks to all my friends, family and supporters that helped me in this election. It’s truly an honor that you have given me, and I will not let you down.”
Kamenicky bested Democrat Maureen Trent, 757 to 570. Dr. Timothy Campbell did not seek reelection in their ward.
“I am honored to be the next councilwoman for Ward 2. I look forward to serving the community and ensuring that Bethel Park remains the community we all love,” Kamenicky said. “Thank you to all my supporters, and everyone that helped me with my campaign. I couldn’t have done it without you, and I truly appreciate it.
“I also want to commend my opponent, Maureen Trent, on the hard work and dedication she poured into her campaign.”
Jenkins earned 871 votes and Democrat Jessica O’Keefe 685. In their ward, longtime council member Mark O’Brien did not seek reelection.
“I am honored and humbled for the support of the residents of Ward 6,” Jenkins said. “My goal has always been to make Bethel Park a better place to live and raise a family. Thanks again for your confidence in me.”
Garis defeated Republican Zeb Jansante, 694 to 658.
Joining Lindsay Flinn as the two women on council, Garis succeeds Tim Moury, who has served as council president since the 1990s but decided against running again.
