Hampton Township School District is hosting the 70th annual Allegheny Valley Honors Band Festival on Jan. 4 and 5.
The festival features senior high and junior high honors bands, culminating in a 7 p.m. concert Friday in the Hampton High School Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults, and $3 for children and senior citizens.
Conducting the 100-student Senior High Honors Band is Jason Worzbyt, professor of bassoon and director of adult and community bands at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The 108-student Junior High Honors Band will be conducted by Zach Cheever, assistant professor of music and director of athletic Bands at IUP, where he directs the symphony band and marching band.
The Allegheny Valley Band Association includes Avonworth, Northgate, North Hills, North Allegheny, Pine-Richland, Shaler Area, Hampton, Fox Chapel Area and Riverview school districts.
Thirty-five Hampton students earned positions in the honors band based on a competitive audition in November:
• Junior High, seventh through ninth grades — Mabel Buben, flute; Catie Parker, clarinet; Grace Girard, clarinet; Celia Vitiello, bass clarinet; Gab Duarte, bass clarinet; Richard Ma, alto saxophone; James Parker, trumpet; Jinwon So, trumpet; Oliver Clark, trumpet; Liam Webb, horn; Jordyn Moyer, horn; Aiden Rauso, trombone; Sydney Osborne, trombone; Joy Dakin, tuba; Licijan Huckle, percussion; Meredith Wallace, percussion; Logan Brady, percussion.
• Senior High, 10th through 12th grades — Molly Ehman, flute; Samantha Nicely, clarinet; Jinho So, clarinet; Anna Houpt, clarinet; Nolan Smith, clarinet; Meghan Armstrong, clarinet; John Bianco, baritone saxophone; Aidan Casey, trumpet; Tim Madden, trumpet; Jason Andrews, trumpet; Peleh Shaltes, trumpet; Braylee Himmler, trombone; Paul Dakin, trombone; Brady Fanuele, tuba; Tanner Paczan, tuba; David Poirier, tuba; Drew Girard, percussion; Branson Himmler, percussion.
